Grey Wagtails are charismatic birds. I spent a summer photographing a pair on a small weir on the River Soar. Next to the weir was a lock which would starve the weir of water when it was filling. This pair of clever birds had figured out that there was an opportunity to look for food on the weir steps when this happened. Roped up, I sat on the weir photographing them feeding during most of my free days in the summer of 2013. In the autumn once the boat traffic had reduced the pair left the area. They returned the following year just in time to catch the summer canal boat traffic going through the locks again.
